JAC Project Management are delighted to have project managed the completed move and fit out delivery for global publisher, Phaidon Press, who are now looking forward to occupying their new offices in Stratford’s Sugar House Island development, where they will enjoy sole occupancy of 2 Cooperage Yard – 8,200 square feet spread over 2 dramatic floors.
Phaidon Press is a global publisher of books on art, architecture, design, fashion, photography, and popular culture, as well as cookbooks, children’s books, and travel books. The company’s headquarters are now based in London and New York City, with additional offices in Paris and Berlin. Founded in Austria in 1923 by Bela Horovitz and Ludwig Goldscheider, Phaidon Press moved the company to England in 1938.
80 years later, and currently with over 1,500 titles in print, Phaidon books are sold in over 100 countries and are printed in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Mandarin, and dozens of other languages. Since the publisher’s founding in Vienna in 1923, Phaidon has sold more than 42 million books worldwide.
“Heritage elements combine with modern building systems and techniques to create comfortable, innovative office spaces within this distinctive business hub”
For a company which counts numerous leading design and architecture publications amongst their titles, it’s fitting to see Phaidon Press making the decision to move to the beautifully modern redevelopment of 2 Cooperage Yard, a sympathetically and cleverly designed space which fully compliments the refurbished industrial buildings surrounding it. Designed with creative and digital businesses in mind, the entire development at Sugar House Island fuses a rich industrial heritage with clean and modern designs into sensitively restored, contemporary spaces where businesses can thrive.
The quietly impressive 26 acre mixed-use development sits near Stratford and south of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Bounded by water on two of its three sides, Sugar House Island is a thoughtfully incorporated new corner of the capital with a distinctive sense of place, delivered by long term investor, Vastint UK. The imminent completion of 140 new riverside homes ranging from studio apartments to mews houses will see occupiers enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding waterways as well as communal squares and semi-private gardens.
Heritage elements combine with modern building systems and techniques to create comfortable, innovative office spaces within this distinctive business hub. JAC project managed the CAT B fit out, delivering clean lines and refined finishes throughout with a striking reception, meeting and boardroom suites, offices and a communal kitchen and breakout space to the ground floor. The open plan first floor makes the very best of the extraordinary amount of natural light which filters through the buildings feature-glazed and tiled pitched roof design – in a sympathetic nod to the site’s industrial history, the eye-catching ‘sawtooth’ roof of 2 Cooperage Yard reflects the roof line of the building which once occupied the site.
